Warehouse Fire Protection For Godowns And Logistics Parks

Warehouses and godowns in India hold enormous fire loads: cartons, plastics, textiles, chemicals and e commerce stock, often packed high and worked around the clock. Building systems such as sprinklers and hydrants protect the storage floor. The fires that start in forklift charging bays, panel rooms, site offices and open yards need a faster, local answer. Our systems detect, suppress and alert at those points, day and night.

The Challenge

The Storage Floor Is Protected. The Edges Often Are Not.

A modern warehouse is designed around its racking. Sprinklers, hydrants and alarm systems are planned for the storage area, and rightly so. But many fires begin elsewhere: a forklift battery on charge, an overloaded distribution board, a heater in a security cabin, a pallet stack in the open yard. These spaces are small, unattended for long stretches and often outside the reach of the main system.

The Directorate General Fire Services records that NBC 2016 Part 4 sets fire and life safety provisions and that states were advised in 2017 to adopt it in their building rules. Storage buildings must meet those provisions to obtain and renew a fire NOC from the state fire service. Autonomous protection at the high risk edges of the site supports that plan by acting in the first minutes, before a small fire reaches stock.

The cost of a warehouse fire rarely stops at the building. Client stock, delayed shipments, penalties and lost contracts often exceed the property damage. That is why the most valuable protection is the kind that keeps a fire small, at the bay, cabinet or yard where it started, while the main systems and the fire service handle anything larger.

Where Warehouse Fires Start

Six Warehouse Fire Risks Outside The Racking

These are the points where fires commonly begin before reaching stored goods.

Forklift Charging Bays

Lead acid and lithium forklift batteries charge for hours beside cartons and pallets, frequently overnight when the floor is quiet.

Panel And Electrical Rooms

Distribution boards, conveyor drives and lighting circuits run long hours, and faults inside cabinets grow unseen.

Packaging And Returns Areas

Stretch film, cartons and returned goods, including lithium devices, collect in staging areas with very high fire load.

Open Yards

Pallets, scrap, dunnage and trailers stored outside are exposed to discarded cigarettes, sparks and dry season heat.

Site Offices And Cabins

Security cabins and site offices run heaters, kettles and chargers, often at the gate and far from the main building.

Loading Docks

Idling trucks, dock levellers and hot exhausts sit beside stacked goods during loading and unloading.

The Protector: Built For Warehouse Rooms And Bays

The Protector covers up to 6 m by 6 m per unit in rooms and bays such as charging areas, site offices and packaging rooms. It confirms a fire across flame, rate of rise heat and CO, CO2 and methane sensing, captures an image before activation and discharges a water based, non toxic suppressant from a 10 or 15 litre tank. For panel interiors we add The Comodo, and for open yards and perimeters The Guardian.

A typical layout combines Protector units over charging bays and in site offices, Comodo units inside conveyor and distribution panels, and Guardian units covering pallet stores and perimeter yards up to 60 m diameter each. We plan the mix around your racking, shift pattern and the way goods move through the site.

Key Benefits

Coverage After Hours

Units act on their own during night shifts, Sundays and holidays when the floor is empty.

Smaller Losses

Containing a fire to one bay or room keeps it away from stock, customers' goods and the building.

Proof For Clients And Insurers

Alerts and images give a clear record of what happened, when and how it was handled.

How It Works

From Detection to Suppression — Automatically

Detect

Sensors watch charging bays, rooms and yards continuously. Each unit checks several signals so dust and forklift exhaust alone do not trigger it.

Confirm

Once readings agree, the unit captures an image and sounds its siren to warn staff working nearby.

Suppress

Water based suppressant discharges over the fire zone, knocking down flame before it reaches pallets and stock.

Notify

Alerts reach the warehouse manager, security desk and safety officer by app, SMS and email, so the fire service can be called.

Why Choose Us

What Makes The Fire Knight Different

We are not a traditional fire extinguisher company. We engineer autonomous suppression systems, a fundamentally different category of fire protection technology.

Autonomous By Design

Each unit detects, confirms and discharges on its own, then alerts your team. Protection does not depend on someone being present, awake or close enough to reach an extinguisher in time.

Confirmation Before Action

Multi sensor logic and a camera image taken before activation help separate a real fire from steam, dust or a passing heat source, which keeps false discharges rare.

Water Based And Non Toxic

Our suppressants are water based and non toxic, so people can remain in the space and clean up is simple. No powder residue settles over equipment or stock.

Connected Alerts

Alerts by app, SMS or email reach owners, safety officers and facility teams the moment a unit acts, with fault and low battery warnings between events.

International Patent Application

International Patent Application No. PCT/AU2023/050224, filed across Australia, India, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Europe.

Engineered To Recognised Standards

Engineered to ASME BPVC VIII Div.1, EN 13445, PD 5500, NATA, CE and ISO 9001 standards. Compliance documentation is available for regulatory submissions, insurance purposes and procurement approvals.

Choosing A System

The Main Types Of Warehouse Fire Protection

Warehouses need layered protection. Here is what each layer does and depends on.

Sprinklers

Sprinklers under ISO 6182 and Indian design rules are the main protection for storage floors and high racking. They depend on water supply, pump capacity and design matched to the commodity and storage height.

Hydrants And Hose Reels

Hydrant systems let trained staff and the fire service fight larger fires. They depend on people being present and trained, and on water and pumps being maintained.

Detection And Alarm

Detection under IS 2189 warns occupants and security. It depends on someone responding, which can be slow in a large shed at night.

Autonomous Local Suppression

Units such as The Protector, The Comodo and The Guardian act at charging bays, panels, offices and yards. They protect defined zones and support, rather than replace, the main systems.

Warehouse Discipline

What Keeps Autonomous Protection Reliable

Housekeeping prevents most warehouse fires. Protection handles the ones that still start.

Charging Rules

Charge forklifts only in marked bays with clear space around them, using approved chargers, and never beside stock.

Clear Aisles And Stacks

Keep aisles, exits and sprinkler clearance free, and do not stack goods against panels or unit sensors.

Yard Housekeeping

Remove scrap, dry vegetation and loose packaging from yards regularly, especially through the dry season.

Electrical Checks

Scan panels and conveyor drives for hot spots and fix loose connections before they fail.

Service Every Unit

Check suppressant levels, sensors and alerts annually, and refill any unit after discharge.

Train Every Shift

Make sure night and weekend staff know the alarm, the assembly point and who calls 101.

FAQ

Can these systems replace sprinklers in a warehouse?

No. High racking and storage floors need sprinklers designed for the commodity and storage height, along with hydrants and alarms required under NBC 2016 Part 4. Our units protect the zones around the racking.

The NOC is issued by your state fire service against the building as a whole. Our systems support your fire safety plan but do not by themselves secure an approval.

Forklift charging bays, panel rooms, site offices and returns areas holding lithium devices usually carry the highest risk outside the racking.

Yes. The Guardian is an off grid outdoor unit with 360 degree infrared detection and coverage up to 60 m diameter, suited to pallet stores and perimeters.

Price depends on the number of zones, unit sizes and installation. Share your site plan and we will send a written proposal.
